Monthly Fireside Chat – Auditing/Expense Management

We are announcing a Monthly Fireside Chat – Auditing/Expense Management. 

The first session Is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2 pm (Eastern).

The objective of these Fireside chats is help our members in 2 fundamental areas:

  • Improve our practices.  What can we learn from each other?  What tips/techniques/tools can we share? 
  • Improve Marketing.  How can we better market our services?  Tailoring our efforts based on industry (i.e. Medical, Government, High Tech, etc.).

Each month we would discuss a specific topic area.  Examples of Topic areas include:

  • PRICE – What do most members charge (% and years).  What % of business is Fixed price, Hourly, Contingency. 
  • PRODUCT - a couple of members would share their auditing deliverables and how it has worked for them. 
  • PLACE –How do we obtain clients?  Do we use agents and if so, what type of agents.  
  • PROMOTION – How do you promote your business?  Should we band together and develop a Standard Speech that we can give to a target audience?
  • TARGET MARKET – What type of clients do you go after and why?  What type do you avoid and why? 
  • COMPETITION – How do you compete against a TEM firm?  Other types of “Auditors”?  How do you Differentiate yourself (from other Consultant/Auditor)?
  • SERVICE – Types of difficult clients?  How to address common issues?  Ongoing TEM Support.

The first Fireside chat is a general introduction.  After discussing the objectives and format, we will look to setup the next Fireside chat, which will cover the topic of PRICE.  Here is the schedule:

  • Week 1 - Solicit survey questions.  Here are some examples of questions/comments that may be included in the “PRICE” Survey. 
    • What do you Charge (% and years)?
    • % of Business (Fixed, Hourly, Contingency)?
    • Charge for Recovery (Credits), Forward Savings or Both?
    • Different pricing schedule (size of clients, industry, location, etc.)?
    • Where do you find credits/savings % (Voice, Data, Wireless, Data/Internet, Others)?  Example (80% Voice, 15% Wireless, 5% Data/Internet)
    • Payment Terms (upfront, 100% due at completion, over time (i.e. monthly/quarterly)?
    • What is included in Pricing (On site HQ meeting, On site Branch/Division meetings, Project management, On site changes, etc.)?
    • Your Contract – Clauses/Language – Address - Prevent client from taking your recommendations, implement, and not compensate
    • Your Contract – Clauses/Language – Address – Other potential problems.
    • What has been the most difficult engagement?  Why?  How was resolved?  
    • Willingness to present your example (i.e. your contract, your report, your document, your experience, etc.) at the next Fireside chat. Will be allot time on next Fireside chat.
    • Action items.  Our members to investigate their sources/contacts to gain information which will be shared.
  • Week 2 - Send out a Survey (above questions) for completion.
  • Week 3 - Compile and tabulate Survey results
  • Week 4/5 – Next Fireside chat January 9, 2019.  Review survey results for PRICE.
